Before the web even existed, there were many hundreds of thousands of people communicating online using modems to call up Bulletin Board Systems (BBS’). Often run from a single machine from the System Operator’s (SysOp) home, these (mainly) text only systems were providing social networks long before Facebook or MySpace were even thought of.
In 1991 I sat down to write an advanced BBS software package for the Commodore Amiga. It was called Zeus BBS and, in its heyday, it was in use by hundreds of SysOps across the world.
For a glimpse into this forgotten, but by no means deceased, world, we present the bigfug bbs, running Zeus BBS under WinUAE
